There are a number of areas within a structure where rats and mice can gain entry. Finding and repairing these sources is an important piece in keeping your home and family safe from these nuisance pests. Damaged or missing sub-structure crawl space vent screens and crawl space access doors, as well as miscellaneous gaps around the exterior siding and foundation are a few examples of conditions that are conducive to rodent entry that we repair.
The sub-area crawl space is equally important to the health of your home and family. The majority of the homes we’ve gone under have wood scraps lying about dating back to the when it was built! This is termite food. Subterranean termites live and nest under the ground and can find this wood with very little effort. This food source helps them generate and establish a colony directly under your house.
Cleanup and disposal of this scrap wood is another form of IPM repairs we offer. Scrap wood left will generally gather moisture which attracts other pests such as moisture ants, dampwood termites, etc. It also creates the perfect environment for fungus rot and mold growth.
Another huge problem we often come across under houses is missing or inadequate vapor barriers. Installation of a proper vapor barrier is vital to the health of your home and family. It prevents ground moisture from rising up and penetrating the support timbers and subflooring of your home. The consequences of not having a proper vapor barrier under your home will eventually lead to excessive moisture and dampness to the wooden sub-substructure of your home which can likely result in:
- mold and fungus growth
- fungus rot
- Ideal moisture conditions for the Anobiidae beetle, termites and other wood destroying organisms capable of widespread infestation and damage.
- moisture ants, dampwood termites, and numerous other nuisance pest infestations.
